All a matter of colour |
||
Like the chameleon, we are intimately concerned with colour, and by constant endeavour have gone far towards matching his versatility in our production of enamel colours. True, our colours, though rich and varied as any the chameleon can show, are permanent once fired. A serious matter to the chameleon, this, but one with which the users of our enamels have so far found no fault. |

P.B.SILLIMANITESome industrial applicationsP.B.Sillimanite is a natural silicate of alumina (65.52% Al2O3, 31.07% SiO2) of exceptional purity and uniform character. It is calcined in a specially designed kiln (temperature 1550° C. upwards) to ensure complete conversion into mullite as a guarantee that the material is stable at high temperatures. Ceramic IndustryP.B.Sillimanite finely ground, when added to ceramic compositions contains clay and kaolin, reduces shrinkage, lowers the coefficient of expansion, increases breaking strength, resistance to abrasion and electrical resistance and extends the sintering range. Kiln furniture such as batts, props, firebags, etc., when made of P.B.Sillimanite have a longer life. Furnace ConstructionAll parts exposed to products of combustion, such as combustion chambers, flues, doors, pillars to support heavy loads at high temperatures, recuperator tubes, etc., etc. All parts exposed to temperature fluctuations and shock. Resistant linings for withstanding the action of many slags, moving charges, abrasion and any type of fuel. Pyrometer tubes. Enamelling IndustryIn the construction of vital parts of enamelling muffles to increase length of service. Corrosion resistant linings for frit smelting furnaces. Linings for rotary melters. Glass IndustryFor all vital parts of glass pot furnaces. Superstructure, dog house, throat, and flux line of glass melting tank furnaces, tuckstones, charging doors, feeder spouts and feeder parts of all descriptions. Jets for glass wool furnaces, burner ports, and cements for hot and cold repairs to tank and pot furnaces. THE P.B. SILLIMANITE CO. LTD

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTto Managers and Officials |
|
Not one of the many processes involved in the making, decorating, marketing and handling of ceramic products can be successfully achieved without the guiding presence and supervision of managerial experience. However willing the operative, or sympathetic the employer, the ultimate responsibility for the work of your department rests with you. In the post-war period, with its peculiar problems and pit-falls, membership of the British Pottery Managers & Officials Association is indispensable to all managers, heads of departments and similar officials. The aims of our organisation, which was established in 1918, are to raise the status of our members, to safeguard their interests in relation both to employers and operatives, and to assist them in their day-to-day problems. As a body we have no political pretensions. Branch meetings are held regularly in your area to discuss current problems, and discharge other business. Lectures, social outings and gatherings occur regularly. Sickness, retirement and other benefits are available. Subscription rates are nominal. There are specially reduced rates for student members. We invite application for membership. Join now to lend your arm, ear and voice to your own organisation. It can help you, and you may be able to help it. All enquiries to: Joseph S. Adams, Business Manager, Sandon Lodge, Blythe Bridge; or Frank A. Timmins, General Secretary, Keynsham, 79, Riverside Road, Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent. |
